Lol, Fermilab employs maybe five Material Scientists. Also, yeah, at LLNL is called the department of Material Design, and my job title is Material Scientist. A Material Scientist is someone who studies the properties of various substances as it relates to a certain application. EG. someone who studies the material strengths of various recipes of concrete so as to determine the required composition for a suspension bridge. Or at least that’s what I was taught in Architecture school. This is a serious profession with possibly serious consequenses. It is miles beyond “internet troll”.

I would agree that politics should not be mixed with religion. Both topics are explosive enough on their own. However, politics is a tool to express and apply power and authority. And religion has always had a need to do just that – otherwise it would be merely philosophy. Thus the two will always be intertwined by human nature. Whether this communion should have any place in government is something that can only be dictated by the culture of the people forming the government.
I just got off the phone with the Materials Engineering department at LLNL. There is no department of Material Design there. Or maybe you were talking about some ‘other’ LLNL?

Hapajap: It’s full title is the Institute of Materials Design. It is a joint effort between LLNL, LANL, and the University of California. In inter-departmental mail, it is referred to as the department of Material Design. Here is information about the program, it is hosted on the LANL website since they spearhead the program: http://institute.lanl.gov/ucd/. I am not aware of any “other” LLNLs. They did not refer you to this because inter-departmental organization is not usually released to the public. Instead, each department is part of a Research Group, Institute, or the like. Feel free to look through the NL websites if you would like to learn more. That is a better method than calling a secretary with incomplete information.

The secretary answered the phone, transferred me to someone in HR or something like that, and they transferred me to someone working directly in the Materials Engineering department. While he did confirm there were people working as Material(s) Scientists (I didn’t catch whether he said the ’s’ part, but didn’t care to press the point), he said there was no department called ‘Department of Material Design’, and he seemed to be racking his brain thinking of something that could fit that description.
At any rate, I’m fine with taking you at your word. I don’t have any reason not to. Yeah, you’ve acted like a juvenile jack-ass, but that doesn’t mean you don’t work where you say you work. I’ve acted like one too, and I’m actually quite intelligent, believe it or not. lol.
I get it from my father, who was kind of a pioneer in the computer engineering industry. He designed systems for (in reverse order), Sun Microsystems (where he helped design the workstations that they used to create Toy Story), His own company where he designed and built after-market add-ons for the DEC Rainbow, DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation), Burroughs, and IBM back in the ’60’s.
He was the only guy at Sun who didn’t have a college degree, and everyone was always asking him how things worked. lol.

That’s cool, my Dad worked for AT&T at Bell Laboratories while they were developing Unix. He had a college degree, but it was in biology. He had a similar experience to your dad’s, where those who had studied extensively in the area were often asking for help from a guy who know how things worked because he had worked with them for years.
Yeah, I know I’ve been a jackass. Politics does that to me I guess. Still my fault though. I suspect the guy couldn’t help you because its not really much of a department at LLNL. As far as I know, I’m the only non UC or LANL employee in the department (I recently switched labs and act as sort of a liason).

I don’t think that one photo is from the ones they’re talking about, but if it’s true that a soldier and a translator raped anyone, they should be taken out and shot post haste. And thrown to the wolves.

Not really. I actually hold our fighting men and women to higher standards, as I do to anyone who takes positions of power or positions of moral authority. If you opt in life to become someone who will be a role model to our children, you should be held to higher standards than the guy sweeping up after a ball game. Those who betray that trust should be punished to the full extent of the law.
I think pedophile priests should be executed. I think anyone who defiles children should be. The recidivism rate of child molesters, I believe, is higher than any other crime, and is the worst among all crimes, IMO.

The only people you should ever count on to be role models for your children are yourselves and people you would actually trust your children with personally.
