So you admit that you're wrong, but then just kind of refuse to admit that I'm not?

Actually, 'memories going up in smoke' alludes to your burning through your brain cells because you smoke too much dope. So it's an allegation based on a biochemical reality.

I still think the yu-gi-oh thing fits with metaphor, at least by your stated definition above, but if analogy is more accurate, then go with God.

When you're trying to make an allegation about a scientific argument, rather than a philosophical one, metaphors mean nothing. When you're drawing a direct similarity between the two objects at hand, that's an analogy.

Quote from Wikipedia:

Metaphor (from the from Latin metaphora; see the Greek origin below) is language that directly compares seemingly unrelated subjects.

Analogy is both the cognitive process of transferring information from a particular subject (the analogue or source) to another particular subject (the target), and a linguistic expression corresponding to such a process.

So a metaphor is not what it was. "All the world's a stage" is a very famous example of a metaphor. When attempting to draw a logical conclusion from whatever it's being drawn from, this is an analogy.

In example, the Watchmaker's Analogy:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watchmaker_analogy

The argument that the watch is too complicated to have existed without a creator or designer. William Paley, who is famous for creating this argument, shows an analogous ( <----- this is important! this word here!) parallel between the universe and a watch.

You made a comic trying to make an analogous link between the fossil record and a collectible card game that's basically Magic: the Gathering for people who can't handle playing a complicated card game.

A metaphor would not have tried to be analytical about the supposedly logical conclusion to be drawn between the two. If it had been "I put my archaeologists in attack position", then that would have been a metaphor.

And seriously? "Your memory going up in smoke" IS A METAPHOR. A METAPHOR THAT COMPARES MEMORIES TO SMOKING WEED. And I'm the one who needs to "not play with the adults"?

Actually, I made the argument QUOTING evolution believing scientists. And the fact that you can't grasp the yu-gi-oh cards as being a metaphor, is similar to your inability to understand what irony is.

Your debating skills may overwhelm your 8 year old nephew, but please try not to play with the adults. You're embarrassing yourself.

BTW, the pipe comment wasn't a metaphor. It was an insinuation. Though I don't know why I'm bothering to explain it to you...

How old are you, anyway? No offense, but you reason like you're in middle school.

Oh shit a pot metaphor. Facts and the logical reasoning of all reputable archaeologists can't repel burns of THIS magnitude!

But your comic was a literal argument that, when you open a pack of trading cards, sometimes you find cards you have found before. But this also happens when digging up fossils I HAVE PROVEN SCIENCE WRONG.

Did you even read the last post? The part where I pointed out where you never actually said invertebrates, but pointed out that every single fossil ever needs to be a different species for fossilization to have some basis in reality? Here, I'll even spell out the argument you're trying to say you didn't put forth:

- Animals are fossilized.
- Fossilization is a rare process.
- If fossilization is so rare, why do more than one fossil for one species of animal exist?
- Wizards of the Coast makes more than one of each Yugioh card.
- If duplicate Yugioh cards exist, it is perfectly analagous with fossils.
- I will draw a tube holding Yugioh cards and disprove science.
- "I'm just using the words of scientists." (hint: you weren't)

I AM NOT SAYING YOU MENTIONED INVERTEBRATES. It's capitalized in case you missed it the last time I said it. But your argument was that all fossils of all species should be found in equal number, which means (EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T SAY IT) that invertebrate fossils would be just as numerous as all other fossils.

And, as is totally obvious to anyone with any knowledge of what fossils are, this idea is fucking ridiculous.

Your memory is faulty, Rokc. Yeah, you got the gist of it right, but the whole invertebrate argument is something I've never said. I know what I believe about this, and that isn't part of the argument at all. Never has been.

Although I do have to say your wording of what I said is horribly wrong as well. lol. You might want to put down the pipe, your memory is going up in smoke.

No, it was IN YOUR COMIC that since we find MULTIPLE FOSSILS OF THE SAME SPECIES, THIS DISPROVES EVOLUTION. You then LITERALLY SAID that "[You're] just using the words of scientists" when you argued that fossilization is extremely rare: so rare that finding multiple fossils of the same species is a literal impossibility.

You made the argument that we have more fossils of certain kinds of animals than other kinds, and this proves that fossilization is useless as a tool to prove the evolutionary theory. The argument that, LITERALLY, bones fossilize more easily than soft tissue, but because we don't have as many fossils of invertebrates as we do of vertebrates, then evolution is disproved.

I used jellyfish as an example of what you were arguing: you were literally arguing that invertebrates (creatures without skeletons, i.e., jellyfish) aren't fossilized as easily as vertebrates (creatures with skeletons, i.e., triceratops). This is obvious. But then you went a step further and said that because of this easily verifiable fact (bones fossilize more easily than soft tissue), evolution does not exist.

You didn't mention jellyfish because anyone who knows anything about fossils knows that you don't expect to find as many invertebrate fossils as vertebrate fossils. As in, you knew absolutely nothing about what you were talking about, and now you're denying it to save face.

But keep defending torture. Oh, I'm sorry, I meant to type "enhanced interrogation techniques." I'm glad it's not torture, and that we can borrow terms invented by Nazi Germany in World War II for the exact same reasons they were invented. The irony is lost on you, but whatever.

bahahahaha

You have as much claim to being a Libertarian as I do to being a Maori warrior. That is, none.

You're so naive and clueless it's getting more sad than funny. "Only terrists are held at gitmo, God created me in seven days, waterboarding isn't torture, the US military is infallible, and the best defense I have for any of these viewpoints is 'nuh uh!'"

And yeah, Saddam had used WMD....in 1988. Which makes plenty of sense as a causus belli in 2003! I think we should go after Aum Shinrikyo next to destroy their stockpiles, before neutralizing the Prussian menace.

Tell your "friend" it's awesome that apparently he's the only thing keeping your family from being tortured.
