Leaving that aside, WTF do ‘our kids’ have to do with the strip topic? By the time they become full-fledged participants in the US economy current budget deficits will be a fairly irrelevant historical detail anyway. States can, have and do carry absolutely mind-boggling deficits, foreign debts and what-have-you and still not only keep going quite well but also fail to implode or turn into third-world hellholes. I mean, Japan topped the previous world record in foreign debt (set by the UK during WW2) sometime in the early 2000s and is still standing. After WW1 both France and the UK were up to their ears in debt and Germany was a starving wreck (and the whole lot had enough war trauma for at least a generation), and all had rebounded within a decade…

Pretty sure the past eight or so Bush years weren’t exactly the most fiscally disciplined and healthy in US history either, but the state’s still afloat.

OTOH, if splurge spending indeed manages to stave off the Great Depression Act Two then there should be little problem making good of the worst of the debt burden during the recovery period – and I rather imagine another major global economic meltdown would create RATHER a bit more “burden” for “our kids” than any amount of damage-control spending.

The point the comic tries to make kinda fails that way IMO.
