Blog test

Check.  Check.  Is this thing on?

Cool.  Well, this blog will evolve, but first things first, the video of the day:

And the quote of the day:

Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples’ liberty’s teeth.
-George Washington

In honor of the latest tobacco tax hike…

Video of the day:

Quote of the day:

A cigarette is the perfect type of a perfect pleasure.  It is exquisite, and it leaves one unsatisfied.  What more can one want?  ~Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

And just in case you were wondering, no, I don’t smoke.

I just think it’s pathetic that taxing tobacco has become the government’s favorite past time.

Let’s get divorced!

Okay, granted I didn’t write this, but it’s just too spot on not to share…

Dear American liberals, leftists,  social progressives, socialists,
Marxists and Obama supporters, et al.  We have stuck together since the
late 1950s, but the whole of this latest  election process has made me
realize that I want a divorce.
I know  we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future
generations,  but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two
ideological  sides of America cannot and  will not ever agree on what
is right so let’s just end it on friendly  terms.  We can smile and
chalk it up to irreconcilable differences  and go our own way. Here is
a model separation agreement:

Our  two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass, each
taking a  portion.  That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our
two  sides can come to a friendly agreement.  After that, it should be
relatively easy!  Our respective representatives can effortlessly
divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate
 tastes.

We don’t like redistributive taxes so you can keep  them.

You are welcome to the liberal judges and the  ACLU.

Since you hate guns and war, we’ll take our firearms,  the cops, the
NRA and the military.  You can keep Oprah, Michael  Moore and Rosie
O’Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a  bio-diesel
vehicle big enough to move all three of  them).

We’ll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations,  pharmaceutical
companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.

You can  have your beloved homeless, homeboys, hippies and illegal
aliens.   We’ll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO’s and
rednecks.   We’ll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.

You  can make nice with Iran and  Palestine and we’ll  retain
the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.

You can have the peaceniks and war protesters.  When our  allies or our
way of life are under assault, we’ll help provide them  security..

We’ll keep our Judeo-Christian values..  You  are welcome to Islamic
Terrorists, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley  McClain.

You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer  be paying the bill.

We’ll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks  and oversized luxury cars. You can
take every Subaru station wagon you can  find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find  any practicing
doctors. We’ll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury  and not a
right.

We’ll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic andthe  National Anthem.

I’m sure you’ll be happy to substitute  Imagine, I’d Like to Teach the
World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the  World.

We’ll practice trickle down economics and you  can give
trickle up poverty your best shot.

Since it  often so offends you, we’ll keep our history, our name and
our  flag.

Would you agree to this?  If so, please pass  it along to other like
minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you  do not agree, just
hit delete..

In the spirit of friendly parting,  I’ll bet you ANWAR which one of us
will need whose help in 15  years.

Sincerely,

John J.  Wall
Law  Student and an American

P.S.  Also, please take Barbara  Streisand & Jane Fonda with you.

CHUCK FOR PRESIDENT!

This is rad.

“On Glenn Beck’s radio show last week, I quipped in response to our wayward federal government, “I may run for president of Texas.”

That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.

From the East Coast to the “Left Coast,” America seems to be moving further and further from its founders’ vision and government.

George Washington advised, “The great rule of conduct in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations [and] having with them as little political connection as possible.” Yet the Obama administration just pledged $900 million in U.S. taxpayer-funded aid to Hamas-controlled Gaza and Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinian Authority.”

Going to have to check this out when it’s out.

Taking Stimulus a ‘bright’ idea?

Bobby Jindal, Governor of Louisiana, isn’t taking stimulus money, I hear.  Same with a few other Republican governors.  A position I totally respect. A position of principle.

But there is something of a problem with not taking it.  And that is that it’s ultimately going to be paid for by his constituents.  It’s like saying you don’t want to take out a loan for a new car, because you can’t afford it, but then your brother buys the car and sticks you with part of the bill, which you’re forced to pay whether you get to drive that car or not.

What I think Jindal and other governors who don’t want to take the money should do is take it, and use it to expand existing, and build new long-term businesses and reduce energy prices.  One way I’ve been thinking would work is to subsidize solar panels for homes.  It would be a cost reducer for those who want it, it would bring business to solar companies, the expansion would likely create more solar panel companies so that in the future it would bring the cost down for anyone wanting to solarize their house.

The cool thing is that this helps more than just the buyers who want those ugly things on their roofs…  Excess energy their solar panels produce go back to the grid to pay down the energy bills of everyone else who doesn’t have them.  Long-term, the whole state saves the money they then have to use to pay-back the stimulus ‘loan’ they didn’t want in the first place.

Anyway, it’s a thought.  I have to get back to work.

You’re not ‘Progressive’

You know what I’m getting really sick of? Leftists skewering the English language to make their lifestyle and positions seem more palatable to the mushy middle in this country. Let’s see, you’ve already taken ‘gay’ from meaning ‘happy and joyous’ to meaning you poke each other in the butt. Which may make certain people happy and joyous, granted, but you’ve effectively taken the word out of usable existence for the rest of us. We’ll never be able to think of Fred and Barney having a ‘gay ol’ time’ the same way again.

(I won’t bother getting into the whole re-definition of ‘marriage’ here, since thus far you haven’t been able to wrangle that one.)

Liberal. What is the deal with taking ‘liberal’ from meaning ‘favorable to or in accord with concepts of maximum individual freedom possible, esp. as guaranteed by law and secured by governmental protection of civil liberties’, which is a grand and very libertarian ideal. Hell, I’M a liberal by this definition! But when was the last time you heard of a ‘Liberal’ who was for less government, i.e. greater individual freedom? Gerald Ford said it well, “Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have … The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases.” It’s a truism. Yet modern ‘liberals’ seem to believe and act in the exact opposite.

Then we come to ‘Progressive’. ‘Liberal’ has become a political dirty word, because people know what it means now. What they’ve skewed it to mean, anyway. So what do you want to call yourselves now? What makes it sound like you’re for something positive? ‘Progressive’. Hah.

What exactly is ‘progressive’ about what you believe in? Is it ‘progressive’ to advocate for hedonism? To lower expectations of human behavior to our lowest basic instincts? To ‘do it’ because it ‘feels right’? You want us to think and act like nothing more than animals. That’s not progression, that is REgression. You want us to eschew technology, rid ourselves of those nasty ‘carbon producing’ things we use to get to work and back. To ride bicycles, or walk wherever we need to go. Hell, some of you are so insane that you want to rid the world of the FLUSH TOILET for crying out loud! Taking the ‘progressive’ movement to it’s logical extremes, you won’t be truly happy until we’re all back living in the STONE AGE, letting the wild animals eat us because you don’t want us to be able to defend ourselves from them because it’s ‘naaaatural’…

Well let me tell you something. Progress, TRUE progress, of the human species is hallmarked by our ability to overcome nature. It’s overcoming our base instincts to form strong family bonds, to be loyal to one person of the opposite sex for our entire lives. To protect and defend those we love even at the risk of our own lives. It’s using science and technology to better the human condition, to make life easier, and bring aid and comfort to people we don’t even know in places we’ve never seen. It’s to uplift the spirit of man from a base and vile animal who wants nothing more than to give into those ‘natural’ desires of lust, greed, gluttony, laziness, anger, envy and pride. That is progress. That is ‘progressive’.

And it’s quite the opposite of what those who call themselves ‘progressive’ want for the world, now isn’t it?

I found this oddly relevant to today, even though it was shot in the 80’s. The embed was disabled for some reason.
